199 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HARRIS, Leslie Wilson Leslie was born in Eden, Ontario on April 28, 1894. He was employed as an Auto Driver when he enlisted in the Army with the 2nd Field Company, Canadian Engineers in Calgary on June 7, 1915. He had been at military school when World War I broke out. Sapper Harris was killed in action on August 8, 1917 when he was hit by shrapnel in Les Brebis, near Loos, France. HAVERSON, Daniel William “Dan” Dan was born in Barrie, Ontario on July 14, 1959. He enrolled in the Canadian Army, Regular Force, in February 1980 and completed his training with the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) in 1981. He served with the following units over the course of his military career: Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) in Calgary and Gagetown, The Royal Canadian Dragoons in Lahr, Germany, Gagetown, and Petawawa, the First Hussars in London, the Ontario Regiment in Oshawa, the Joint Nuclear Biological Chemical Defence Coy, CANSOFCOM with the Canadian Joint Incident Response Unit in Trenton, and IATF in Kingston. He completed three tours in Bosnia Herzegovina and Macedonia as part of SFOR. He was appointed the first Influence Activities Task Force Sgt Major and after a 32year career, Dan retired from the Army with the rank of Master Warrant Officer in 2015. Dan has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 130 in Hanover, Ontario for four years. HARRON, Alvin Eldon Alvin was born in Arran Township, Ontario on June 23, 1920 to Stanley and Harriett. Prior to going overseas, Alvin helped his parents on the family farm. He enlisted in the Carleton and York Regiment, RCIC in 1942 and served in Canada, Britain and Italy during World War II. Private Alvin Harron was killed in action in Sicily on July 20, 1943 at the age of 23. He is buried at Agira Canadian War Cemetery in Sicily.
