27 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ABBOTT (PENNINGTON), Kathleen “Kae” Kae was born June 14, 1922, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was living in England when World War II broke out and wanted to be of service, so she joined the British Auxiliary Territorial Service and served with them until the Canadian women arrived and on June 23, 1943, she joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. She worked for a General doing general office duties and she earned the rank of Sergeant in doing so. It was there that she met her husband Phillip who was a messenger delivering at her office. They married during the war in England and they returned to Canada after the war where they raised three children together and celebrated 41 years of marriage. Kae was very active in The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 583 in Newbury, Ontario where she was a Charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary for 23 years. She was discharged on February 22, 1946. Kae passed away on June 6, 1986. ADAMS, Alfus King Alfus was born on January 29, 1890 in Tobermory, Ontario. He enlisted on October 4, 1939 with the Perth Regiment to serve in World War II but was medically discharged on February 23, 1940. On June 24, 1940, at the age of 49, he enlisted with Grey and Simcoe Foresters and served until his discharge onAugust 29, 1945. Alfus received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Alfus resided in Tobermory from 1945 until his death on January 20, 1968. ABBOTT, Phillip Henry Phillip was born July 4, 1924, in Robsart, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Canadian Army on February 3, 1943. He served overseas in England duringWorld War II and served as an orderly in a hospital for wounded soldiers and then as a Motorcycle Messenger. It was during this time that Phillip met his wife Kae. Kae was with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps working for the General at the time. They married in England while serving and then they returned to Canada after the war where they raised three children together. They were married for 41 years. Phillip was instrumental in starting The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 583 in Newbury, Ontario where he earned many awards as well as the Palm Leaf Award. He was a member there for 52 years. Phillip was discharged from the Army on March 7, 1946. He passed away on November 16, 2012 in Veterans Care at Parkwood Hospital in London, Ontario.
