29 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ADAMS, Ernest Hagmire Ernest was born in Tobermory, Ontario on November 26, 1919. He volunteered to join the Canadian Army in 1940 and served during World War II as a Trooper with the Grey and Simcoe Foresters Armoured Tank Regiment transferring to the Governor General’s Foot Guards in June 1943. Ernest served in Normandy and the Netherlands. He is commemorated on the Juno Beach Memorial for his contribution to the War, as a Guardsman. Ernie Adams was the recipient of the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Clasp, Defence Medal, and the War Service Medal. Upon his discharge in January 1946, Ernie moved from Tobermory to Sarnia and worked at Imperial Oil Limited. Ernest passed away on May 3, 2010 in Sarnia. ADAMS, James John “Jimmy” Jimmy was born January 6, 1926 in Tobermory, Ontario. He enlisted with the Merchant Navy but appears to have transferred to the Army as a dispatch rider serving in World War II in Europe. While delivering mail, he was involved in an accident and suffered a serious leg injury. Upon discharge, Jimmy married and raised his family in Kitchener, Ontario. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Polish Branch 412 and was a recipient of the Defense Medal, War Medal 1939-1945 and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Jimmy passed away on January 31, 1997. ADAMS, Gerald Christopher Gerald was born on April 21, 1928 in Tobermory, Ontario. He enlisted for World War II along with his four older brothers. When it was determined that he was underage, he was assigned to the Merchant Navy and stayed in Canada to work on the boats. After discharge he moved to Sudbury, Ontario to work in the mine. He passed on December 5, 1993 from workplace related cancer.
