33 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ALDINGTON, Alfred Nelson Alfred was born in London, Ontario on January 10, 1950. On March 15, 1966, he enlisted in the Army and served with the 9 Sigs, 744 Com, 709 Com, 4 Royal Canadian Regiment and 22 Svc Battalion. Alfred served in Canada as a Telephone Lineman 4th Level, Radio Operator Level 2, Teletype Level 3, Service Battalion Mobile Support Equipment Operator Level 6B. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 145 for five years. Alfred was discharged and retired on May 15, 2009. ALLENSON, Daniel Daniel was born in Normanby, Grey County, Ontario on May 6, 1897 to Henry and MaryAllenson. He was drafted into the Army duringWorldWar I and reported for a medical examination in Brantford, Ontario on May 11, 1918. He was sent for basic training at 2nd Depot Battalion, 2nd COR. Daniel was shipped to England aboard the SS Corsicain July 1918, arrived in early August and was posted to the 8th Reserve Battalion in Witley. In October 1918, Daniel was admitted to hospital with Influenza. He then developed Bronchial Pneumonia and during convalescence, was further diagnosed with an acute infection. He was kept in hospital until his booked return trip to Canada on May 5, 1919. Demobilization of the Canadian Expeditionary Force was in force and Daniel received his release on June 5, 1919. He married Mary Weber and they had five children. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch 530 in 1955 and remained a member for 22 years. Daniel passed away on July 18, 1977 and is buried in the Saint Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Normanby. His name has been inscribed on Plaque 2 of the Waterloo Legion Veterans Memorial Wall. ALLEN, Daniel Aubrey Daniel was born in Hamilton, Ontario on September 23, 1923. Daniel and his older brother Lawrence enlisted in the Royal Canadian Infantry (No. Six District Depot) in Truro, Nova Scotia on April 29, 1942, where he served as a sniper in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe duringWorldWar II. During combat Daniel was injured and returned home, but soon returned to combat as he did not want to leave his brother. Daniel received the France and Germany Star and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was discharged from service on February 20, 1946. Soon after, Daniel married his only love Leona, and they had six children. Daniel retired from Canadian General Towers after forty years as a Tool and Die Maker. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Oakville Branch 142. Daniel passed away on May 12, 1993.
