41 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BAKKER, Aaron Marc Aaron was born on August 30, 1982 inWingham, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in January 2009 for the Five Canada Division. He is the son of Harry and June Bakker and Grandson of Lloyd and Marion Machan. Aaron did one tour in Afghanistan. He has been presented the Afghanistan Medal by the OP Athena Commander Task Force Sargent Major in 2011. BARCLAY, William Alexander William was born on May 16, 1895 in Arran Township, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on April 10, 1918 in Melita, Saskatchewan. Private William Barclay served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Canada and Britain during World War I. He was discharged on June 23, 1919 and married Clara Jane Crawford on October 14, 1931. They had two children: Melvin and Maureen. William was a farmer and cattle drover until his retirement. He was a trustee and Steward of the former Arkwright United Church and Tara United Church. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tara Branch 383. Private Barclay passed away on August 21, 1977 and is buried in Tara Hillcrest Cemetery, Tara. BANKS, Christopher William “Chris” Sergeant Chris Banks, born on December 30, 1982, has been a Brampton resident his entire life. He joined the Lorne Scots Regiment in 2000. In 2003, he deployed to Bosnia as a peacekeeper and was awarded the NATO Non-Article 5 Service Medal and the Canadian Peacekeeper Service Medal. In 2008, he deployed to Afghanistan as a machine gunner in the 3rd Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment Battle Group and was awarded the General Campaign Star. He took part in Operation Cadence in 2010, Operation Nanook in 2010, and Operation Lentus in 2017. In 2012, he was awarded the Canadian Forces’ Decoration for long service in the Canadian Armed Forces. In 2015, he joined The Royal Canadian Legion and continues to advocate for Veterans issues. Chris was discharged in 2019. He served the legion as Public Relations Officer and is currently the Poppy Chair for Branch 15 in Brampton as well as the Service Officer for District B.
