71 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BRENNER, David G. “Dave” Dave was born in Windsor, Ontario on December 14, 1945. He was seventeen when he enlisted in Navy on December 14, 1962 in Windsor. His training was in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. In 1963, he served on the Bonaventure for over a year and a half. While in training he was in England, Scotland and Norway. On his second training exercise, he had to return to Halifax and his ship was loaded with Canadian trucks and jeeps and was part of the Peace Keeping Force that went to Cyprus. Dave served for three years being discharged on December 14, 1965. He returned to Windsor, raised his family and worked for the Chrysler Corporation until he retired. BRIDGE, John Andrew John was born in Eastnor Township, County of Bruce, Ontario on November 16, 1885 and as a young man he moved to The Pas (also known as Paskoyac), Manitoba where he took up the occupation of a fisherman. On March 19, 1918, he enlisted in the Army with the 52nd Battalion, Manitoba Regiment and served in France during World War I. He was discharged on March 29, 1919 and returned to Lion’s Head for a short time. Then he moved to Veteran, Alberta and after a short time he took up farming in Port Arthur, Ontario. Shortly before his death he returned to his place of birth, Lion’s Head, Ontario and passed away on September 1, 1972. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 6 in Thunder Bay. John is buried in the Eastnor Township Cemetery with many of his family. BRIDGE, Herbert Herbert was born on January 29, 1895 in Eastnor Township, County of Bruce, Ontario. On March 24, 1916, he enlisted into the 160th Bruce Battalion. He served in England and France with the 1st Engineers during World War I. On May 17, 1919, he was discharged and returned to Lion’s Head where he took up farming. He married Belle (Wardrop) and they raised nine children. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lion’s Head Branch 202. Herbert passed away in 1988 and is buried with his wife in the Eastnor Township Cemetery.
