83 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BUCKO, Richard S. Richard was born in Heilbronn, West Germany on July 26, 1949. He enrolled in the Air Force on March 12, 1970 as a Vehicle Tech 411. From CFRS Cornwallis, he was posted to CFB Kingston at RCEME School. He was posted to 1 Svc Bn at CFB Calgary and attached to CFS Alert from June to December 1973. He was sent to Egypt from December 1974 to June 1975 attached to 73 Cdn Service Bn. He also did convoy runs to Israel, Lebanon and Syria. He was honorably released in April 1976. He was awarded the CD with Clasp, UNEFME, UNDOF, SSM with Alert NATO Bar, Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, and the Queens Golden jubilee Medal. Richard was also awarded in Ottawa from the Minister of Defense and Canadian Forces Liaison Council. He worked for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada and retired after 27 years. He now enjoys restoring old military vehicles as a hobby. He is married to Monique Bucko with two daughters and one son. His daughter, Danielle, as a Cadet, was awarded The Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence. He is an eighteen-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 418. BURROWS, George “Potsy” George was born in Toronto, Ontario on June 13, 1918, and lived in Brampton. He enlisted July 14, 1941 in the Royal Canadian Air Force serving as a Corporal. When enlisting he said his only attribute was to play lacrosse. Because that was not what they needed, he mentioned he was in the Brampton Band. They asked if he could play the horn. He was the bugler from then on. It was on Jarvis Street in Toronto that he was the station trumpeter. He was in the Air Force until the end of the Second World War. An active member in The Royal Canadian Legion, George spoke to schools in the Brampton area for Remembrance Day Services and played the Last Post at all Legion functions for over 60 years. Some of his awards include: Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, Brampton Branch 15 Life Member, Queen’s 50-year Jubilee Medal, Queen’s 60-year Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Legion Meritorious Service Medal and Certificate, Brampton Civic Award, 1981 Brampton Citizen of the year, 1997, Key to the City of Brampton, 2013 William Mercer Award from the Masonic, Paul Harris Award from the Brampton Rotary Club, Ontario Medal of Good Citizenship, as well as many sports awards. BURLEY, Douglas “Ross” Douglas was born in Hamilton, Ontario on March 5, 1938. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on June 2, 1958 where he served in Canada and on Peace Keeping duties. During his career, he was awarded the CD 2 and MFO and was honourably discharged on August 27, 1993. Ross and his wife Doreen lived in Stokes Bay, Ontario where he was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lion’s Head Branch 202. Ross passed away on August 23, 2001 and is buried in the Eastnor Township Cemetery.
