93 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CHARLEBOIS, Paul William Paul was born in Almonte, Ontario on April 3, 1966. He enlisted with the Royal CanadianArtillery on May 27, 1985 with RCA Bytown Gunners. He was deployed as a Peacekeeper to Cyprus, Lahr, and West Germany. Paul retired with the rank of Master Bombardier. He was awarded the United Nations Forces in Cyprus, Canadian Forces’ Medal with Clasp, Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, and the United Nations Special Service Medal. Paul was discharged on July 16, 2009. He currently is a public servant with the DND. CHARTRAND, Roger Joseph Roger was born on November 25, 1924. He enlisted in 1950 with the Royal Canadian Regiment and was soon on his way to Korea. He served a lengthy time in Korea and got infected with malaria and suffered with it periodically on his return to Canada. He was noted for his great strength and enduring personality. After retirement from the military, he joined the Federal Government. CHARLTON, William George William George Charlton was born in Toronto on July 17, 1891 to Sarah Charlton. He worked in Owen Sound in a furniture factory building chairs prior to the war. He joined the military duringWorldWar I on November 27, 1915 and was assigned to the 147th Battalion. William sailed to England aboard the SS Olympic on November 14, 1916. He was then posted to the 8th Reserve in Shorncliffe. In January 1918, he was sent to the Moore Barracks Hospital in Shorncliffe and was listed as seriously ill with pneumonia. He was released from hospital near the end of February and he returned to Canada at the end of March 1919. William was discharged on July 30, 1919. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 50 in Kitchener and Branch 530 in Waterloo. William George Charlton died in 1957 and is buried in the soldier’s plot in the Woodland Cemetery in Kitchener, Ontario. His name has been inscribed on Plaque #1 of the Waterloo Legion’s Veterans Memorial Wall.
