95 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CHASSIE (WILLIAMS), Anne Alice Anne was born in Nemiscau, Quebec on December 21, 1921. In 1940, she joined the Canadian Land Army in Toronto during World War II and transferred to the Canadian Women’s Army Corp. Anne served in Canada and was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Private. She received a Life Membership from The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 142 in Dunnville, ON and then transferred to H.T. Church Branch 24 in St Catharines, ON. Anne passed away on August 6, 2005. CHASSIE, Ernest Xavier Ernest was born in Pembroke, Ontario on March 5, 1922. He joined the Army’s Canadian Forestry Corp in Ottawa in 1941 and received his basic training in Quebec. He was shipped to Scotland in June 1941 and was transferred to the 17th Field Artillery. He served in Italy, France, Germany and Holland. In 1943, Gunner Chassie was shipped to Italy where he served until his discharge in 1945. Ernest was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 142. Ernest passed away on March 28, 2011. CHASSIE, Edward Edward was born in Chapeau, Quebec on April 1, 1890. On March 17, 1916, he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Massey, Ontario. He transferred to 10 Company in England, then onto the 52nd Battalion. Private Edward Chassie served in England, France and Italy during World War I. His unit moved into France on Christmas Day 1916. He was wounded in Cambray in 1918 and discharged. He re-enlisted during World War II in 1941 and served with the Canada Home Guard in Canada until his discharge in 1945. Edward passed away March 25, 1985.
