107 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CAMPBELL, John Richard “Ritchie” John was born on September 4, 1890 in Proton Township, Grey County, Ontario, to Duncan and Caroline (Vert) Campbell. He was one of nine children, of which the oldest three boys fulfilled their call to serve. On February 14, 1916, while living in Barrow Bay, Eastnor Township, Bruce County, he enlisted in the 160th Bruce Battalion, CEF and served in France during World War I. He attained the rank of Lance Corporal and was discharged due to demobilization on May 31, 1919 from the 1st Battalion Canadian Engineers. Upon his return home, he married Ethel Irene Warder on October 2, 1919. He is recorded in some of the first minutes as a founding member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lion Head Branch 202, which received its charter in 1931. The first meeting being held on Knife Island, in Stokes Bay. John passed away in 1942 and was buried in the Eastnor Township Cemetery in Bruce County. CAMPBELL, Norman Finley Norman was born on May 11, 1888 in Tobermory, Ontario. He enlisted on April 12, 1918 with the Army in the Regular Forces serving with the 31st Battalion CEF. Norman was killed in action at the age of thirty on September 27, 1918. He is buried at Sains-Lès-Marquion Nord France. He received the Purple Heart, a U.S. Medal given posthumously to American Soldiers killed in action. As Norman Campbell’s Regiment was serving along with the American Army when he was killed, he was also given the Medal. CAMPBELL (MacDONALD), Mary Eden Mary was born on February 28, 1933 in Wiarton, Ontario. She enlisted in 1950 with the Air Force during the Cold War and served in St. Jean, Quebec; London and Aylmer, Ontario, and Sea Island, BC. Mary was discharged in 1953 and has been residing in Richards Landing since 1977. She is also member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 374.
