111 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CARR, Stanley Edward “Sam” Sam was born on June 27, 1932 in Toronto, Ontario. His military career began in 1948 as a Reservist with the 48th Highlanders of Canada and served in this regiment until 1949 when he was transferred to the Canadian Army (Regular) Force. He served in combat with the Special Force with the 1st BN and was later assigned to 3rd BN, Royal Canadian Regiment. They boarded the train to Seattle then Korea and joined up with B Coy 2nd BN RCR then 1st BN RCR of the Regiment during the Korean War from September 1951 to November 1952. Stanley was released medically with very severe diagnosed ulcerative colitis and later PTSD. He rejoined the 2nd BN and continued with the Regiment until 1964 when he was honourably released from Regular Service on medical grounds. Again, he rejoined the Canadian Army Reserve Forces with 3rd and 4th BN’s of the Royal Canadian Regiment BN in London. He is the recipient of the Duke of Edinburgh Medallion. In total, Chief Warrant Officer Carr served 39 years in uniform. His medals include the Korean War Medal, Korean Volunteer Medal, United Nations Volunteer Medal, NATO Peacekeeping Medal, Canadian Centennial Medal, Canadian 100th Anniversary Medal, Queen’s Silver, Gold and Diamond Medals and the Canadian Forces’ Decoration with two Clasps. CARROTHERS, George Howard George was born in Bosanquet Township on June 30, 1896. He enlisted in the Army on May 18, 1918 and served with the Western Ontario 1st Battalion, Canadian Engineers in Canada during World War I. He was discharged on January 28, 1919. George was a member of Cassia Lodge in Thedford, Ontario. He moved to Welland, Ontario to farm. CARRIERE, Lawrence Campbell Lawrence was born on May 1, 1893 in Grand Bend, Ontario. His father was a minister in Grand Bend. Lawrence worked as a banker prior to joining the Army. He enlisted in Thedford on January 6, 1916. He trained in London, Ontario at Camp Borden and Queens Park. He joined the 25th Infantry Battalion then served in France with 4th Battalion, Canadian Engineers during World War I. He sailed on SS Lapland on March 28, 1917. Lawrence was discharged on May 29, 1919.
