117 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CAVENER, Douglas Douglas was born on July 7, 1939 in Montreal, Quebec. He enlisted in the Army Cadets in 1956 and served with the Royal Canadian Regiment in Canada, Germany, Cyprus and Alert. He was discharged in 1979. He was awarded the MMM for saving a German civilian in a burning car while stationed in Germany. He received the Paratroopers Badge and CD Badge. He is a Past President of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 221 and a member of Victory Branch 317 for 56 years. Douglas presently resides in Thorndale, Ontario. CHARLTON, Lionel William Lionel was born in Falkirk, Ontario (Ailsa Craig, Ontario) on December 12, 1892, the son of William and Christina Carlton. Lionel enlisted in the Army in London, Ontario on November 2, 1914. He left school teaching to join the 18th Battalion, Western Ontario Regiment and sailed on the SS Grampian inApril 1915. He served in France in April 1916. Lionel was killed in action by shell on July 20, 1916. He is buried in Ridgewood Military Cemetery, Belgium. Lionel’s name is on the West McGillivray War Memorial. CHANDLER, Edward A. Edward was born on April 12, 1925, in Toronto, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on May 6, 1941, with the Lincoln &Welland 4th Armoured Division and served in England, France, Belgium and Holland. He was wounded in action on October 29, 1945, in the city of Bergen op Zoom, Holland and shipped back to England for operation and sent back to Canada at which time he received his discharge. Edward was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Highland Creek Branch 258.
