119 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CHASE, Mancil Reginald Mancil was born on July 9, 1943 in Chipman, New Brunswick. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy on October 3, 1964 as a Peacekeeper. He served on the HMCS Saguenay and HMCS Cornwallis in Canada, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. Mancil’s rank was Leading Seaman. After his honourable discharge on June 22, 1969, he was employed by Beacon International (Import/Exports) in Paris, Ontario. Mancil passed away on November 21, 2001. CHENIER, Lionel Alphonse Medrick “Leo” Leo was born on January 24, 1917 in Cobalt, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on April 1, 1941 and served with the Armoured Division. He was to go overseas but his heart condition kept him in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Leo passed away on November 13, 1959. CHASE, Reginald Larkin “Reg” Reg was born on April 19, 1916 in Chipman, New Brunswick. He enlisted in the Army with the Royal Canadian Regiment, 4th Brigade in 1939 during World War II and served in Canada, England, France, Holland, and Germany. During the war, on one occasion, Reg was hidden by the Dutch Underground, preventing his capture by the Germans. After his return home to Canada, he would for many years, at each Christmas, send a huge box of goodies to his Dutch friends that had sheltered him in Holland, as a thank you for their kindness and bravery. He received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, King George Medal, and Canada Medal. After his discharge in 1945, Reg started up the only restaurant in Chipman and ran Reg’s Restaurant for about five years. Later, the family settled in St. Thomas, Ontario, where Reg worked as a chief for the Ford Motor Company for ten years. He was a twenty-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Chipman Branch 74. Reg passed away in June 1991.
