123 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CLIFF, Joseph “William” William was born on November 4, 1896 in Lincolnshire, England. He enlisted in the Army on August 1, 1918 during World War I and served with the 1st Depot Battalion WO and No 1 Engineer Depot in Canada. He was discharged on January 3, 1919 and resided on a farm near Thedford, Ontario. William passed away in 1969. COLE, Martel Robb “Mart” Mart was born on April 26, 1922 in Owen Sound, Ontario. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on January 28, 1943, serving in England, France, and Germany. Mart landed on Juno Beach on June 6, 1944. He was assigned courier duties and performed same on a motorcycle. He was discharged with the rank of LAC on May 18, 1944. Mart received the France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. In the early 1950’s, he moved his family to Scarborough, Ontario. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 13 for 52 years. Mart passed away on January 9, 2009. COHEN, James Alexander “Jim” Jim was born on July 11, 1931, in Owen Sound, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in 1951 with the RCR and served in the Korean War in South Korea until his discharge in 1957. Upon Jim’s return from Korea he was married, had three sons, and worked for over 32 years at Hilroy. Over the years Jim and his late wife enjoyed many trips to Hawaii and the Rose Bowl in California. Jim is a 25-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 344, and he was the President of the Army, Navy Lambton Unit on Jane Street, Toronto. Jim enjoys visits to his Branch and has been a long-time member.
