127 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND COOK, Robert Delaney “Bob” “Cookie” Bob was born on September 1, 1941 in Reading, England, arriving in Canada in July 1946. He joined the RCASC in June 1959, serving in Germany, Gagetown, London, Cyprus, Vietnam, Queen Charlotte Islands and Ottawa. Bob was awarded the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal in 1992 and won the Deserving Serviceman of the Year Award in 1994. In September 1996, Bob was discharged from the military with over 37 years of service. After “retirement” he worked as a Commissionaire and a school bus driver and his leisure time was spent camping and travelling with his wife Ann. Through it all, Bob volunteered at the Perley Vet’s for fifty years, Beaver Barracks Sgts Mess (Life Member), and The Royal Canadian Legion Westboro Branch 480, receiving Life Membership and Meritorious Service Award, in 2011. Bob passed away on December 29, 2018. COOPER, John Clive John was born on October 7, 1936 in Coventry, England. He joined the Air Force in December 1957. John served in England, Singapore, and Malaya. While in Singapore, he helped dismantle WorldWar II Radar Sites. In December 1959, after demobilization, he was discharged and returned to his trade as a tool and die maker. In 1964, John moved to Windsor, Ontario and joined The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 255. He was founding member of the Tuesday Night Dart League and the Treasurer of the Saturday night mixed league. He was also the Treasurer of the Legion Gulf League for over twenty years. John is retired and has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for over 52 years. COOK, Sydney Sydney was born in Clapton, London, England on June 7, 1894. He immigrated to Canada in 1909 as farm labour for the Rosser family. Sidney enlisted in the Army on October 4, 1915 in Parkhill, Ontario. He sailed on the SS Lapland with the 33rd Battalion and the 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles. Sydney landed in France on June 6, 1916, one day before his 22nd birthday. He would write to his sister while in the trenches. After a few months in France, Sydney was killed in action on October 1, 1916 and is buried in Stump Road Cemetery in Albert, France.
