131 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND COULTIS, Audrey Chester Audrey was born on June 19, 1918 in Tehkummah, Manitoulin Island, Ontario. He enlisted on February 16, 1942 with the Navy during WWII. He served with the HMCS York, HMCS Naden, HMCS Prince Robert, HMCS Stadacona, and the Frigate Thedford Mines in Canada, England, Ireland, and the High Seas. Audrey received the France and Germany Star, 1939-1945 Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, and War Medal 1939-1945. Audrey was discharged on September 18, 1945. He was married to Noreen Hopkins and lived in Tobermory. He was a lighthouse keeper on Flowerpot Island, situated off top Bruce Peninsula, from 1950 to 1982. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tobermory Branch for twenty years. Audrey passed away on September 24, 1982 and is buried in Dunk’s Bay Cemetery Section A, Row 4 Plot 26. COUVRETTE, Bernard Daniel Bernard was born on November 16, 1946 in Sudbury, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on December 4, 1963 and served with the RCAMC/CEMS in Canada and Germany (NATO). Bernard was discharged on January 13, 1970 and was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 503 for thirty years. COUTTS, William James “Bill” Bill was born on July 26, 1922 inWalton, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served with the 8th New Brunswick Hussars in Italy and Norther Africa. He was a mechanic during World War II. He often worked on tank engines and said that sometimes the engines ran so hot, you could have fried eggs on them. After serving in Italy and Northern Africa, he returned to the Walton area where he had a mixed farm and worked at McGavins Farm Equipment until he retired. At one point, one of his daughters asked him: “So what was it like in the war Dad?” His answer was simple: “You don’t want to know.” He was discharged in 1945. Bill contributed to the community by being on the local school board, a strong supporter of the Plowing Match activities and was a regular church attendee at Duff’s United Church in Walton. As a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Brussels Branch 218, he wore his jacket and medals with pride and always stood a little taller on Remembrance Day. Bill passed away on December 20, 2002.
