147 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DAVIS, Ernest Richard Ernest was born in Somerset, England on January 5, 1909. He enlisted in the British Army in 1926 and served as a Corporal in England, France and Germany. He and his wife Irene came to Canada and had three children: son Bob, who joined the CanadianArmy in 1954, served in Germany and returned to Somerset; Michael and Kay. Ernest’s occupation was a utility worker and police Constable. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Hensall Branch 468. Ernest passed away on March 12, 1983. DAY, Arthur Arthur was born on November 5, 1895 in Stratford, Essex, England. He came to Canada in 1906 and worked for the Prance Family on the farm. Arthur enlisted in the Army on November 24, 1915 in Parkhill, Ontario and sailed on the SS Olympic in August 1916, travelling with many young men from the area. In England, he joined the 125th Battalion and served in France with the 4th Canadian Infantry Battalion. He was discharged in April 1919 and returned to farm and to marry Rhea Smale. Arthur passed away on December 3, 1963 and is buried at the Exeter Cemetery. DAWSON, John Cameron John was born on August 10, 1898 in West Williams Township, Parkhill, Ontario. John was a student and had both his parents, William and Minnie, give consent for him to enlist. He enlisted in the Army on November 24, 1915, joining the 135th Battalion. He sailed to England on the SS Olympic in August 1916. John served in France with the 34th Infantry and 54th Canadian Infantry on March 29, 1918. He was discharged on June 8, 1919 returning home to marry Goldie Studevant and was a postmaster. John passed away in 1980 and is buried at the Parkhill Cemetery.
