161 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DONALD, Robert Archibald Robert was born in Thedford, Bosanquet Township, Ontario on August 31, 1895. He enlisted in the Army on August 15, 1916 and served with the 149th Battalion, No. 1 Special Service Co in Canada during World War I. He was hospitalized for two months and was declared medically unfit due to rheumatism. He was discharged on December 11, 1918. Robert worked as a machine operator in Goodwood, Ontario and moved to Ferndale. He then moved to Oakland, Michigan, USA. Robert passed away on May 30, 1971. DRAGO (NORRIS), Bonita Jo-Anne “Bonnie” Bonnie was born in London, Ontario on August 10, 1939. She joined the Navy on August 15, 1959 and did New Entry Training at HMCS Cornwallis. She did medical assistant training at HMCS Naden in Victoria, British Columbia and was in Canadian Forces Hospital HMCS Stadacona in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She was drafted as the Sick Bay Attendant to HMCS Shelburne in Nova Scotia and drafted to Toronto CNE as a WREN rep on the military exhibit. During the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, all leave was cancelled, and ships were brought up to full complement. How dangerous this time could have been! On August 14, 1963, she was discharged and worked in a Vancouver hospital and returned home in 1965. She did more training and worked at Metropolitan Hospital where she met her husband, Bob. Marriage, three children, Girl Guides, The Royal Canadian Legion, church and human rights issues have kept them both active and thankful. DOUGLAS, John Howard John was born on June 15, 1896 in Ilderton, Ontario, the son of Edward and Isabell Douglas. He was a carpenter when he enlisted in the Army on January 10, 1916 in Parkhill, Ontario. John joined the 135th Battalion and sailed to England on the SS Olympic in August 1916. He served in England with the Canadian Forestry Corps. John was discharged on August 26, 1919. He married Alice Anderson. John passed away on February 21, 1972 and is buried in the Nairn Cemetery, Middlesex County.
