179 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND EICHLER, Nora Mae Nora was born in New Hamburg, Ontario on November 27, 1920 to Charles Carl and Hazel Mae (Robson) Eichler along with four brothers: Bruce, Paul, Wilfred and Douglas. Nora joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corp at Knollwood Park in Kitchener, Ontario in June 1941 and served in various military bases during World War II until her release in 1945. She then married Paul Frederick Wirth and they had ten children: Stephen, Stephen’s twin sister (1946), Sylvia, Sharon, Susan, Michael, Kathleen, David, Rosamarie and Donnamae. She was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion New Hamburg Branch 532 along with her WWII brother Douglas. Nora Mae passed away on December 4, 2010 at the age of ninety and is buried in the Riverside Cemetery in New Hamburg, Ontario. ELLIOT, Charles Thomas Charles was born on April 13, 1913 in Middlesex County, Parkhill, Ontario, the son of Thomas and Mabel (Poore) Elliot. Charles served with the Active Militia, Middlesex and Huron Regiment. He was married to Kathleen Magladery in 1940. Charles enlisted in the Army on July 12, 1940 and was Lieutenant, promoted to Captain with the Essex Scottish Regiment RCIC. In France, Charles was wounded, reported missing, and died of his wounds on September 2, 1942. He was only in France for two weeks. Charles is buried at the Holten Canadian Cemetery in Holten, Holland. There is a memorial stone in his name at the Parkhill Cemetery in Ontario. EICHLER, Paul Theodore Paul was born in Kitchener, Ontario on January 10, 1914 to Charles Carl and Hazel Mae (Robson) Eichler. Prior to World War II, Paul was working at logging camps in northern Ontario and at Hahn Brass in New Hamburg. On September 7, 1939, Paul joined the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, 24th Field Ambulance and was part of the first contingent of the Canadian Forces to come to the aid of Great Britain. Paul married Mary Cooper in England on July 12, 1941 and they had one child, David. Paul was stationed in England at the Medical Stores for the duration of World War II and returned to New Hamburg when he was discharged on July 19, 1945. His wife and son sailed from England on the Queen Mary, arriving in Canada in June 1946 to join her husband in New Hamburg. After his return, Paul worked at Hahn Brass for a while then moved his family to Kitchener; added another child, Gilbert, to the family. He obtained a job at J.M. Schneider Meats and worked in the smoke house until his retirement thirty years later. Paul had joined The Royal Canadian Legion Kitchener Branch 50. Paul passed away on August 24, 1995.
