181 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ELLIOT, John Andrew John was born on June 8, 1914 in Middlesex County, Parkhill, Ontario, the son of Thomas and Mabel Elliot. John worked in London, Ontario and was married to Elizabeth Racey. John was an Active Militia Unit Middlesex and Huron Regiment. He enlisted on June 9, 1942 with the Royal Canadian Regiment. He arrived in England in August 1944 then in Italy on October 8, 1944. He was reported missing on December 4, 1944. John was taken prisoner and died on January 10, 1945. He is buried in the Argenta Gap War Cemetery in Argenta, Italy. There is a memorial stone at Parkhill Cemetery with John and his brother Charles’ names on it. John received the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. ELLIOT, Thomas Ninian Thomas was born on September 25, 1884 in West Williams, Parkhill, Ontario. He belonged to the Canadian Railway Troops, 26th Regiment. Thomas had four of Canada Certificate of Military Instruction. Thomas’ two sons, Charles and John Elliot, were killed in World War II. Thomas died in 1960 and is buried at the Parkhill Cemetery. ELLIOT, Minard Hugh Minard was born on December 7, 1898 in West Williams Township in Parkhill, Ontario, the son of George and Lottie Elliot. Minard was a student and he had consent from his parents to enlist. He enlisted in the Army on March 21, 1916 in Parkhill, Ontario and joined the 135th Battalion. He sailed on the SS Olympic in August 1916 to England. He served in France in May 1917 with the 75th Canadian Infantry. He was wounded in October 1918 and was discharged May 1919. Minard passed away on December 5, 1966 and is buried at Park Lawn Cemetery in Toronto, Ontario.
