183 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ELLIOTT, Clarence Edwin “Ted” Ted was born on September 26, 1936, in Morris Township, Ontario, the youngest son of Samuel Bevan and Bertha Elliott. He enlisted with the Canadian Army on March 8, 1956, as a Gunner with the 1RCHA. Ted served in Shilo, Manitoba, Europe, and Gagetown, NB. and Continental Europe. Upon returning from Europe, while stationed in Camp Gagetown, NB he met his wife Lyna Annamay Miner. Ted and Ann married in Fredericton on March 23, 1962. Ted received an honourable release from the Army on April 27, 1962. Shortly thereafter they drove from New Brunswick to Brussels, Ontario. Ted worked for his parents in their grocery store in Brussels for a time before taking employment with the County of Huron. He was on the bridge crew in the summer and a snow plow operator in the winter. Ted joined The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 218 in Brussels, Ontario, in 1962, and held numerous offices at the Branch, Zone and District levels. He received his life Membership in November 1985. He was instrumental in helping with the formation of the Brussels Army Cadet Corps #2967 in 1979. Ted passed away on October 25, 1997. ELLIOTT, Gordon Andrew Gordon was born on July 30, 1896 in Bosanquet Township, Ontario. He worked on a farm until enlisting in the Army on June 18, 1918 during World War I. He served with the 1st Depot Battalion Western Ontario Regiment in Canada. On September 18, 1918 he was discharged and returned to Thedford, Ontario. Gordon married, raised a family, and worked in a bakery until his passing in 1967. ELLIOTT, Fred Seymour Fred was born in Bosanquet Township, Thedford, Ontario on October 12, 1890. He enlisted in the Army on December 11, 1915 and joined the 149th Battalion during World War I. His unit sailed to England on SS Lapland on March 28, 1917. Fred’s unit was then sent to France and he transferred to the 4th Canadian Reserve Battalion in February 1918. He was severely gassed and wounded by small pieces of gas shell in France in August 1918. He was hospitalized on account of gas, rheumatism, and painful feet. He was discharged on March 22, 1919. Fred married and was also Provisional Lieutenant of Lambton Regiment – Visual Telegraphy. Fred passed away in 1951 in Sarnia, Ontario.
