185 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ELLIOTT, Harold Francis Harold was born on May 15, 1915 and raised in Toronto. He enlisted in the RCASC on June 9, 1942. Harold received Armoured Corps training at Camp Borden and obtained his Class 111 wheel I.C. (In Charge) as well as advanced trade and technical clerk training at Brampton Training Centre. Private Harold Elliott went overseas with the Canadian Army Service Corps Reinforcement Unit on January 14, 1943 and served in the United Kingdom and then onto France on June 15, 1944 where he performed his assigned duty as Technical Mechanical Transport Clerk “C”. His effort helped with the allied forces mobilization to secure victory. His medals consist of the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, France and Germany Star, 1939-1945 Star, and the Defence Medal. He was officially discharged from the Canadian Army on February 7, 1946. Harold was married twice and was the proud father of one son and two daughters and one stepson. Harold passed away on May 30, 1993. ELLIOTT, William “Ross” Ross was born in Maryborough Township, Ontario, on March 3, 1923, the eldest son of Samuel Bevan and Bertha Elliott. He enlisted with the Canadian Army on July 24, 1941. Ross served as a Sergeant with the 4th Canadian Armoured Brigade in Europe during the World War II. With the end of the war, Ross married Christina Agnew and settled in Toronto, Ontario and then in the Fort Erie area. They raised two daughters, Evelyn and Roberta. Christina passed away in 1984. After that time Ross moved to Goderich, Ontario. Ross was a long-time member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 218 in Brussels, Ontario. Ross passed away at the age of 76, on November 14, 1999. ELLIOTT, Samuel “Bevan” Bevan was born on April 3, 1893, in Arthur Township, Ontario, to Robert Irwin and Margaret Elliott. On January 2, 1918, at age 24, he joined the Army in London, Ontario with the 1st Depot Battalion Western Ontario Regiment. Sailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia to England on February 22, 1918 Bevan was hospitalized shortly after arrival for 24 days at the Bramshott Canadian Hospital with German Measles. With several months of training, he was sent to France and assigned to the 3rd Battalion Canadian Machine Gun Corps. On March 17, 1919, he returned to Canada on the SS Olympic and was discharged on March 28, 1919. Bevan married Bertha Walsh on June 16, 1920. They farmed in Maryborough Township, and then moved to Morris Township, Ontario. Their last move was to Brussels, Ontario where they operated Elliott’s Grocery Store. Bevan joined The Royal Canadian Legion Mount Forest Branch in 1928 and when the Brussels Branch 218 was formed in 1931 he became a charter member. He was awarded a Life Membership May 10, 1966. In 1979, Bevan received the 50th year Medal. Bevan passed away on July 15, 1980, at the age of 86.
