187 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ELLISTON, Herbert Gordon “Herb” Herb was born on October 26, 1916 in Woodbridge, Ontario. He joined the Midland Regiment in July 1940 in Port Hope, Ontario and served in Canada for over two years before being transferred to England in 1943. He underwent training in anti tank and was posted to the Stormont Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders. He was wounded by an 88 air burst at Caen, and medevacked to England. He returned to service with the SD&G near the end of August until the end of the war. Herb joined the Midland Regiment Reserve in 1947 transferred to the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment upon the demobilizing of the Midlands. Through training and ability, he progressed to CSM of 3 Coy in Port Hope. Sgt/Maj Herbert Gordon Elliston retired from the military in 1964. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Port Hope Branch 30. Herb passed away on July 7, 1992. ELLISTON, Raymond John Raymond was born on January 4, 1943 in Port Hope, Ontario. He served for five years as a member of the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment before enlisting in 1964. After basic officer training, he was assigned as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Regiment. He served with NATO Forces in Germany, with the British Army in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, on UN missions in Cyprus and Iraq-Kuwait, and various posting in Canada including four years in the Canadian Airborne Regiment. Raymond retired in 1998. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 387 in Frankford. ELLISTON, Montgomery Gordon “Monty” Monty was born on November 14, 1939 in Cobourg, Ontario. He served nine months with the Hastings and Prince Edward Militia Regiment prior to joining the Canadian Army Apprentice training on September 7, 1956 as an electrical technician at the age of sixteen. He passed the Group 4 assessment in 1968 and posted to Germany and promoted to Sgt. After two tours in Germany and serving in six provinces, he retired in Comox as an MWO on December 23, 1986 and transferred to the Ready Reserve in Prince Rupert with over 32 years of service. Monty is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 387 Frankford for four years and Branch Port Alberni, British Columbia for ten years.
