191 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ENDEAN, Jim Joseph Jim was born on February 28, 1943 in Kapuskasing, Ontario. He enlisted with the Army on March 15, 1962 serving in the two Armored Regiments: The Royal Canadian Dragoons and the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians). He did two tours in Germany with NATO and two tours in Cyprus with the U.N. as a Peacekeeper. In 1974, Jim re-mustered to the Air Element, Fire Fighting Trade serving in Germany and Canada. He served as Fire Chief, on HMCS Fraser and CFS Lowther, (Northern Ontario), retiring in April 1984. Jim then took employment at Toronto Pearson Airport for twenty years, retiring in 2003 as a Fire Captain and resides in Tillsonburg, Ontario. Jim received the Cyprus Medal, CD and Bar, Peacekeeper Medal, NATO Medal and Firefighter Medal. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branches 85, 197, and 183 for a total of 36 years. ENGLISH, Walter Walter was born on March 5, 1891 in Norfolk, England. He arrived from England and moved in with his brother David in Sharon, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on August 9, 1915 in Toronto. He served in England with the 14th Canadian Battalion during World War I. Walter was killed in action on June 3, 1916 and was laid to rest at Menin Gate Ypres Memorial in Belgium. Walter has a street in the community of Queensville, Ontario named in his honour. ENGEL, William Menzie William was born in Stratford, Ontario on March 12, 1929 to William George and Margaret Jane (Alcock) Engel along with three brothers, Donald, Malcolm, and Robert plus one sister, Ruth. On October 19, 1950 William joined the Militia of the Perth and Waterloo Regiment and enjoyed six years of comradeship until he received his discharge from the H.L.I. of Cambridge orderly room on October 4, 1956. He married Shirley (Thompson) in 1960 and they had one daughter Jennifer. William worked at Sunar inWaterloo for 31 years and was a member of The Royal Canadian LegionWaterloo Branch 530 for 49 years. William passed away at Forest Heights LTC on February 14, 2015, in his 86th year and his name has been inscribed on plaque #8 of the Waterloo Legion Veterans Memorial Wall.
