199 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FERGUSON, Leo Private Leo Ferguson of Berlin (now Kitchener), Ontario was born on September 13, 1897. He left his job as a baker and enrolled in London, Ontario on September 8, 1915. After some quick initial training, he sailed on the SS Metagamato England on November 20, 1915. Just a few weeks after his 21st birthday, he was carrying ammunition forward to resupply the 13th Canadian Infantry Battalion when he was killed by shellfire. It was October 1, 1918 and the war had only five weeks remaining. On July 3, 1919 Supplement #31430 to The London Gazette officially announced the award of the Military Medal to him. The medal was awarded to Warrant Officer, Non-commissioned Officers and Non-commissioned members for individual or associated acts of bravery on the recommendation of a Commander-in-Chief in the field. Leo left behind his father, Fred, of Kitchener, Ontario. Leo’s name appears on the Vimy Memorial. FINDLAY, Norman John Norman was born in Ottawa, Ontario on October 13, 1919. He enlisted in the Navy in 1940 and served as a Leading Stoker on corvettes in the North Atlantic in the RCNVR and later in the RCEMC. Upon release in 1946, he was a civilian employee with National Defence Ottawa. Norman passed away on April 21, 1968 of lung cancer. FINDLAY, Alexander George Alexander was born in Ottawa, Ontario on May 22, 1922. He enlisted in the army with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps in 1940. In late 1942, he transferred to the Royal CanadianAir Force as anAir Crew Gunner andWireless Operator aboard Lancaster aircraft. After his discharge in 1945, he was employed by the Canadian Government in Statistics Canada. Alexander passed away on February 1, 1997.
