43 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BAILEY, Thomas Andrew Thomas was born on November 15, 1894 in Chapleau, Ontario Algoma District. He enlisted in the Army on May 13, 1918 and served during World War I with the 1st Depot 14th Battalion Regiment in Canada and England. Thomas was discharged on January 30, 1919 and resided in Thedford, Ontario. BALDWIN, Herbert Leroy Herbert was born on May 20, 1899 in Watford, Ontario, the son of William and Eliza Baldwin. Herbert was living and working in Arkona, Ontario as a tool maker. He enlisted in the Army on December 6, 1915. Later records showed that he was underage and was discharged in September 1916 from the 149th Battalion. Herbert enlisted again in May 1918 arriving in England in July 1918 on the SS Saturnia. He served in France as part of a cleanup crew in October 1918. He was discharged in July 1919. Herbert passed away on September 6, 1976 in Sarnia, Ontario. BAKER, Michael Richard Michael was born on September 28, 1954 in St. Thomas, Ontario. He signed up in 1972, at the age of eighteen, taking his basic training at Canadian Forces Base Cornwallis, Nova Scotia in a trades course as a Vehicle Technician. He spent three years with the Royal Canadian Artillery in Brandon, Manitoba. As part of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force, Michael spent six months in Ismailia, Egypt and a further six months stationed at the Golan Heights in Israel. During his military service, he was assigned as a Mechanic Recovery Specialist, retrieving, and repairing damaged or broken-down equipment. After his discharge in 1977, Michael became a truck driver and then studied to become a Registered Practical Nurse in St. Thomas, where he is still employed today. Michael is a five-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lord Elgin Branch 41.
