49 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BARTLETT, Doug Doug was born in Vienna, Ontario on October 15, 1926 to Basil and Gladys (Perkins), along with one brother, Gary. He enlisted in the Army in London, Ontario on October 25, 1944 and was assigned to the Royal Canadian Engineers. While attending basic training in Ipperwash, he was struck on the head by a ricochet shell, which sidelined him from further service in the military. Granted a medical discharge on March 9, 1945, he attended a Furniture Trade School in Toronto. From there, he settled in Kitchener, Ontario. In 1949, he met and married Agnes, and they had two daughters: Cathy and Laurie. Doug held jobs at Electrohome and Silverwoods, eventually retiring after being a cab driver. Doug loved music, bird watching, travelling, 10 pin bowling and dancing with the love of his life for 65 years. His smile was infectious wherever he went especially at Waterloo Legion Branch 530 where he was a member for 49 years. Doug faithfully attended every Remembrance Day Service and Dinner until he passed away on February 20, 2015. He is buried in Williamsburg Cemetery in Kitchener, Ontario. Doug Bartlett’s name has been inscribed on a plaque #8 of the Waterloo Legion Veterans Memorial Wall. BASHER, Albert E. Albert was born in Galt, Ontario on October 4, 1926. He enlisted in the Army on March 28, 1945 to serve during World War II until his discharge on August 28, 1945. He became interested in flying and eventually became a flight instructor at the Fledgling K-W Airport. There he helped many to acquire their pilots license until hearing loss took this from him. Albert passed away on January 14, 2006. BARTLETT, Reginald Reginald was born on May 4, 1921 in Walthamstow, London, England. In April 1939, he enlisted with the Royal Air Force during World War II serving in Cornwall, Mawgan Porth, Habbaniya, England, and Middle East. He enjoyed the work but was not in combat. He played a minor role in the sinking of the Bismark and has written about some of his adventures which were published in various magazines. Reginald resided in Windsor in 1951 and was discharged on May 22, 1952. Reginald was a member of The Air Force Club for fifty years. He passed away on October 12, 2019.
