He was recommended by his Commanding Officer to try out for the SAS located at Hereford. Encouraged by his CO, Malcolm passed a most demanding course on his second attempt, including combat survival, counter terrorism, evasive and resistance training, to name but a few. Malcolm was sent toYemen in 1962 to help quell uprisings in the Radfan Mountains. After a brief stint inYemen, his unit was sent to Borneo where clashes occurred with insurgents who were trying to prevent Brunei and North Borneo from incorporating into what is known today as Malaysia. He returned to Britain in 1966 to civilian life. Malcolm received the General Service Medal and Borneo Clasp and was mentioned in Dispatches (Combat Decoration). On the evening of April 16-17, 1943, he was the navigator in an aircraft detailed for an attack against Pilsen, Czech. On their return their plane came under intense anti-aircraft fire which took out two engines. The Pilot kept the plane in the air mainly due to instructions given by Henry. Just short of the coast they were attacked by an enemy fighter and their plane was forced down and crashed. Harold became a prisoner of war at Stalag Luft 111. He was discharged on June 1, 1945. Harold married Margaret J. (Brown) and they raised four children. In 1949, he was one of the founders of the 404 Wing and a Past President; in 1952 he was a charter member of The Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch 530.
