65 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BICE, Edwin Francis “Ed” Ed was born in June 1891 in Bosanquet Township, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on May 29, 1918 with 1 Depot Battalion, Canadian Engineers. He served during World War I in England at Moore Barracks, Shorncliffe Camp, then on to France. Ed sailed home on the Southampton in September 1919. After being discharged, the family moved to Erfold, Saskatchewan. Ed passed away on March 25, 1967 in Chaplin, Saskatchewan. BILLINGS, Everett John Everett was born on August 8, 1915 in Owen Sound, Ontario to John and Maria Billings. He had two brothers, Lavern and Dalton, as well as one sister, Phoebe. Everett worked at the Owen Sound Brick yard to help support his family after his father’s death. In August 1941, Everett volunteered for service in the army and was off to Camp Borden as it was called. He served in Canada for the duration of World War II and remained in the Army Medical Corps after World War II ended. He met and married Beatrice MacLeod from Chatsworth. Everett and Beatrice had two children, William and Hazel. In April 1952, Everett shipped out to Korea with the 37th FieldAmbulance until rotation home inApril 1953. Everett was then posted to Shilo, Manitoba until his death in June 1957. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, War Medal 1939-1945, Canadian Korea Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal for Korea, United Nations Service Medal Korea, and the Canadian Forces’ Decoration. BILGER, Edwin Morgan Edwin was born on March 13, 1925 in Lyndock, Ontario. He enlisted in the Navy on August 24, 1943 and served during World War II on the HMCS Noranda, a Canadian Bangor Class minesweeper as a Sonar Operator in search of German submarines. He received his basic training on the Plains of Abraham, in Quebec City. The ship’s mission was to escort convoys out of Boston, Halifax, and New York City as part of a larger group, meeting at a pre-planned area in the Mid Atlantic, where they met Allied escorts to take them across to England. His very first mission was to escort the regular ferry from Sidney to Port aux Basques, Newfoundland. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, Defense Medal, and the War Medal 1939-1945. After his discharge on November 20, 1945, Edwin went back to farming tobacco, but eventually transitioned into the insurance business. Edwin is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 125 Delhi and continues to reside in Tillsonburg, Ontario.
