73 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BOUCHARD, Gilles Georges Gilles was born on July 24, 1939 in Hearst, Ontario. He enrolled in the Army in 1957. He was stationed in various places: 425 Squadron Cold Lake in 1961; SaintAvold, France in 1963; Baden-Soelingen Germany in 1964; Val D’Or, Quebec in 1967; Trenton, Ontario in 1971 and Bagotville, Quebec in 1977. He was discharged in July 1978. Gilles then became a security officer at Mirabel Airport. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 190 in Saint-Jérôme, Quebec for eight to ten years. Gilles passed away on February 21, 2015 and his ashes were brought back to his hometown of Hearst for burial. BOULIANE, Sylvain Raoul Sylvain was born on November 9, 1955 in Montreal, Quebec. He enlisted in the Air Force on November 27, 1972 and served at Cold Lake, Edmonton, Montreal, and Lahr. Sylvain has been deployed to Alert, Egypt, Yugoslavia, and Croatia. He also served with the Naval Reserve with CIC for ten years from 2003 to 2013 and finished as CO of RCSS Corps in Calgary. Sylvain volunteers for various veterans’ groups like Memory Project and Guitar 4 Veterans and is a member of other veteran associations. Sylvain received the SSM, CPSM, UNEFII, UNIPROFOR, NATO, QDJMII, CD2 and Naval League Long Service Medal (ten years). He is an eighteen-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 638 in Kanata, Ontario, where he has been residing since June 1, 2015. BOUCHER, Alexander Sandy Alexander was born on January 27, 1913 in Byng Inlet, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 during World War II and served as a Corporal with the Army Infantry and Medical Corps. He was responsible for the training of new recruits in battlefield medical procedures and rifle range. While he was serving as an orderly looking after soldiers and prisoners in a military hospital compound in Alberta for about three years, he was seconded into combat where reinforcements were badly needed. During his training he was sprayed with poisonous gas, burning his lips and throat. After spending a month in hospital, he learned his injuries would prevent him from being deployed into active service overseas. He was discharged in 1945. Alexander was married to Joyce from Nobel. After the war, he worked at various jobs until securing a full-time employment with Lands and Forest (now Natural Resources) Byng Inlet Fire Tower to Maintenance at Grundy Lake Park until retirement. Alexander was acknowledged as the oldest Indigenous Veteran in Canada. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Britt Branch 591 for ten years. Alexander passed away on December 7, 2020.
