81 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BRENNER, Oliver William “Ollie” Ollie was born in Kitchener, Ontario on March 27, 1918 to Cornelius and Alfreida (Dietrich) along with eight siblings: Alice, Paul, Helen, Carl, Jack, Mary, Norma, and Marlene. He joined the Army in London, Ontario on January 7, 1942 and was assigned to the Highland Light Infantry. During his service in World War II, he was stationed in the United Kingdom from June 12, 1942 until D Day, June 6 when he landed on Juno Beach in Normandy. He fought in Caen and the Falaise Gap in Normandy, as well as Boulogne in France and Nijmegen in the Netherlands. He was wounded on October 20, 1944 in Germany. His occupation was listed as driver mechanic. Ollie was discharged on January 23, 1946. He married Mary Reinhardt and they had eight children. At some point, he was nicknamed Ollie. He was a business owner for almost forty years, starting with a Supertest Service Station at Frederick and Duke, then a Sunoco Station, a hotel in Neustadt plus a hotel in Baden. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Kitchener Branch 50. Oliver passed away on August 3, 1988 and is buried in Woodland Cemetery in Kitchener. BRIDGE, Glenn Leroy Glenn was born on October 3, 1936, in Minto Township, Wellington County, Ontario. At the age of eighteen, in 1954, he joined the Reserves and was sent to Meaford Training Base. He was placed in the 99th Battery, Royal CanadianArtillery and was there only a short time. He lost his hearing standing beside the big guns when they were firing them during practice. There was no hearing protection required at that time. That was the end of his military career after only two years, being discharged in 1956. Glenn returned to civilian life and to work at his father’s car garage. He married his wife Jean, and they had three children. He took over the running of the garage from his father in Brussels and in time, the business moved to Wingham and he retired. He was very active in his local branch of The Royal Canadian Legion in Brussels moving through all the offices and serving in Zone and District as Commander, as well as Chairman of many District Chairs. BRENNER, Ronald Claire “Ron” Ron was born in Kitchener, Ontario on October 13, 1931 to Elmer and Beatrice (Erb) Brenner along with three brothers, Jack, Eddie, David, and one sister Jane. On October 1, 1951, Ron joined the army and was attached to the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. He served in Korea and was honourably discharged in October 1957. Ron married Doris (Maue) and they raised four children: Audrey, Donna, Heather, and Rhonda. Ron joined The Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch 530 where he was a 32-year member. He worked at Uniroyal/Goodrich in the rubber department. Ron passed away at the St. Mary’s Hospital on March 1, 2019 and interment took place in Memory Gardens, Breslau, Ontario. His name has been inscribed on Plaque # 9 of the Waterloo Legion Veterans Memorial Wall.
