83 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BRIDGMAN, Frederick James Frederick was born on November 22, 1891 in Launceston, Cornwall, England. He arrived in Canada in July 1910 living in Parkhill, Ontario working as a butcher. Frederick enlisted in the Army on March 27, 1916 and sailed in August on the SS Olympic to England. He joined the 135th Battalion, then the 125th Battalion and served in France and Belgium. From April 1918 to July 1918, Frederick was reported missing in action, was a prisoner of war at Stammlager. Frederick was released from camp in November 1918 and was discharged in June 1919. He returned back to Canada with his War Bride Gwendolyn Furse. BROCK, Roy Thomas Roy was born in Hensall, Ontario on June 9, 1915. He enlisted in the RCR, 4th Platoon and Calgary Tank Regiment in 1939 and served in England, France, Italy, Belgium, Holland, North Africa, and Sicily during World War II. He received the Italy Star, France and Germany Star, NorthAfrica Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Victory Medal. Roy was honourably discharged at the rank of Corporal in 1945. He married Anna after the war and worked as an electrician for Fink Plumbing and Heating in Hensall until retirement. He was awarded a Life Membership by The Royal Canadian Legion Hensall Branch 468 in 1994. He served on various committees including the Exeter Legion Pipe Band during his tenure with the Exeter and Hensall Legion Branches. Roy passed away in 1995. BROAD, Dean Bernard Dean was born on May 28, 1966 in Birmingham, England. He enlisted on June 15, 1984 in Cannock, England and did his basic training at Whittington Barracks Lichfield, with his first posting to Colchester. In December 1985, he was shipped out to Bad Fallingbostal, Germany, where he spent four years near the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. During his time in Germany, he was sent on attachment for six months to Northern Ireland, stationed at Belfast during the uprisings, then back to Germany. He was then sent on Attachment to Berlin for one month where he was part of the security force at Spandau Prison guarding the infamous Rudolf Hess. He was sent back to the UK to join the Devon and Dorset Regiment in Bulford camp. He was transferred back to Northern Ireland with the Royal Engineers. In 1990, he was sent to Iraq for nine months. Dean was transferred to Sennelager, Germany for six months and again back to Belfast. Then transferred to the Royal Logistics Corps. In January 2003, he was shipped to Kuwait City, as part of the British Force during the Second Gulf War; then back to Grantham, England. In July, he moved to Canada, being stationed at Trenton. Dean received the Northern Ireland Medal, United Kingdom Cyprus Medal, Iraq 1st Gulf War Medal, Iraq 2nd Gulf War and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. In civilian life, he worked as a professional Transport Driver. Dean resides in Galt, Ontario.
