97 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BURR, John Maxwell John was born on February 8, 1897 in Parkhill, Ontario, the son of Daniel and Hannah Burr. John enlisted in the Army on January 17, 1916 joining the 135th Battalion. He sailed on the SS Olympic to England inAugust 1916 then transferred to the 125th Canadian Infantry Manitoba Regiment. John served in France. In April 1918, he was wounded and died on October 9, 1918 at the age of 21 and is buried at Duisans British Cemetery Nord Pas-de-Calais, France. There is also a marker at Parkhill Cemetery in Ontario. BURRELL, Walter John Walter was born in Walkerton, Ontario on May 24, 1945. He was in the cadets at Hanover High and went to Ipperwash for the summer. He joined the militia in Walkerton Artillery. Walter joined the Regular Army in 1964 with the Armoured Corps and went to Borden then to Gagetown, New Brunswick with the Royal Canadian Dragoons. He was sent to Cyprus as part of the United Nations mission where he drove a scout car. He was released in 1967 and has been living in Owen Sound since 1968. He has worked at PPG for 42 and a half years. Walter is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 6 in Owen Sound. BURRELL, Walter Henry Walter was born in Maple Hill, Ontario on January 16, 1920. He joined the Army but was later transferred to the Navy because he was flat-footed. He enlisted in the Navy on August 25, 1941 and was mostly on convoy duty as a radar tech with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve on several ships including HMCS Montreal, HMCS Hochelaga, HNCS Stadacona, HMCS Ungava, and HMCS Prevost and HMS London. He had many fond memories of his time in the Navy. He was discharged from service in 1944. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 6 in Owen Sound where he resided since 1975. Walter passed away on January 22, 2007.
