103 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND COLLINS, Alger R. Alger was born on August 16, 1923, in Riverside-Albert, New Brunswick. He enlisted inAugust 1940 and served in Gander, Newfoundland with the Royal Rifles of Canada. Alger was killed in action in Hong Kong on December 23, 1941. COLWELL, Bruce Bruce was the son of Milford and Treva (Emerson) Colwell who lived in the hamlet of Glamis, Bruce County, Ontario. During the second world war, Bruce was in medical school and was recruited to the Army reserves. His medical training was paid by the army and he graduated in 1945. He did not serve overseas. COLLINS, Charles Ed Ed was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on August 9, 1932, to a World War I Veteran and Aircraft Worker. His father joined the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1940 and the family moved to Camp Chilliwack in 1942. Ed joined the Army Cadets for five years and joined the RCNAir in 1950 with Cert Sea Fury, Avenger, 880 Squadron. He transferred to Summerside in 1953 and in 1954 was sent to Bermuda for six weeks. In 1954, he was with transferred to Patricia Bay (BC) VU33 Squadron. He was discharged in 1955 and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in October 1955. He was stationed in Moose Jaw until 1961 he was transferred to Downsview, 436 Squadron, Boxcars. He was discharged in October 1965. He joined the RCAF Reserve 411 Squadron as Air Crewman in January 1966 and was discharged in 1974. After the war, he spent fifteen years at U of T as Assistant Director of Student Info Systems and fifteen years at Canadian Tire as Manager of the Database System. Ed retired in 1993. He is a 45-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 547. In 1960, Ed resided in Innisfil, Ontario.
