107 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND COOK, William William was born in 1887 in Sheshegwaning, Ontario. He joined the Army in 1916 and served as a Private with the 227th Battalion in the District of Sudbury. He achieved the rank of Corporal within the 11th Battalion and witnessed the death of Michael M. Cada when he was shot in the trenches of France. A talented fiddle player, William’s date of death is not known. CORNFORTH, Thomas Albert “Bertie” Thomas was born in Derby, England on January 21, 1883. He emigrated from England to Canada in 1903 and married Mary Delaney, a union which produced four children. He enlisted in the Army with the 207th Battalion in Ottawa on April 15, 1916 and was then part of the 21st Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force destined for France. He was killed while serving in the front lines at Passchendaele during the night of November 3, 1917. His body was never recovered, and he is memorialized on the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres, one among 57,000 others with no known graves. COPLAND, Timothy Boyd “Tim” Tim was born in Windsor, Ontario, on February 28, 1946. He joined the Navy (Reserve Force) at the age of seventeen at HMCS Hunter in Windsor. Part of his training was at the Armory in Windsor and then he was off to Cornwallis. Tim served on the Great Lakes. After his discharge in 1965, he worked for the city of Windsor as a Police officer. Tim and his wife got married in 1969 and raised two boys. After 32 years of service, Tim retired and went to work for Shoppers drugs. At the Legion, Tim held different positions, including four terms as President. Tim is a proud 53-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 255.
