119 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DARLING, Harold N. Harold was born on December 29, 1912, in Oliver Corners, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1940 and served with No. 1 Army Field Workshop in Italy, Sicily, France, Belgium and Holland. As a driver/mechanic, he drove General Grant tanks and also did a lot of salvage work, going up to drag out the wrecked tanks. He saw extensive action throughout Europe during the four years and ten months he served overseas. Harold was discharged in 1945. He passed away on September 11, 1992. DAVIES, Doris Mary Doris was born in Llanfallteg, Wales on April 17, 1921. She enlisted in the Army (Reserve Force) with the Auxiliary Territorial Service in October 1942 and served in England duringWorldWar II where she met Lance Corp. Percy Hill of the RHLI Canada. They were wed in Sussex on May 13, 1944. Doris was discharged onApril 20, 1945, after serving for two years and 159 days. Their first child, a son, was born in Wales on October 19, 1945. On September 12, 1946, Doris arrived in Canada as a War Bride on the ship Lady Nelson with their eleven-month-old son. Doris and son were reunited with her husband Percy in his hometown of Havelock, Ontario and went on to have more children and a full life. She was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Havelock Branch 389 for over twenty years. Doris passed away on September 13, 1984. DAVIDSON, Allan Richard “Al” Al was born on November 21, 1945, in Hamilton, Ontario. He enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces on January 13, 1969, in Hamilton as a skilled mechanic (Vehicle Technician) and after completing basic training at CFRS Cornwallis NS went on to become part of the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME). Before his posting to CFB Borden, he received further training at the RCEME School CFB Kingston. Further postings included 3 Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (RCHA), CFB Shilo MB, and 4 Service Battalion CFB Lahr Germany. On return to Canada, he returned to CFB Borden and then on to Base Maintenance CFB North Bay ON followed by CFB Chatham and finally CFB Petawawa, where he served with 2 RCHA, and 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group Headquarters. Al also completed a tour in Cyprus. His medals include Special Service Medal with NATO bar, Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, UN Force in Cyprus and the Canadian Forces Decoration with Clasp. After 26 plus years of dedicated service, Al was honourably discharged at the rank of Master Warrant Officer on December 19, 1995. Al retired in Petawawa where he lives with his wife Linda of fifty years.
