125 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DECAREAU, Francis N. “Frank” Frank was born in Brockville, Ontario on September 12, 1919 and grew up in Mountain, Ontario. He was a machine gunner who served with the Cameron Highlanders. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on September 23, 1939 and served during World War II with the Royal Canadian Infantry Corps in Greenland, Iceland, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe, namely France, Germany and the Netherlands. Frank and his regiment became part of history when they landed on Juno Beach in Normandy as part of D-Day landings. He was discharged on July 6, 1945 and began his career with Ontario Hydro. It was there that he met his future wife, Anna Hanniman from Admaston, Ontario. They went on to have four daughters: Margaret, Nancy, Bonnie and Donna. Frank passed away on May 21, 1981 from a massive heart attack. He is buried in Holy Well Cemetery in Mount Saint Patrick, Ontario. He was residing in Mount Saint Patrick from 1965 until his death. DEMERS, Luc Gerard Joseph Luc was born on October 13, 1955 in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces on June 3, 1975 in Sudbury, starting basic training on July 6, 1975 in St. Jean, Quebec. In 1976, he completed a radio operator course in CFB Kingston and was posted to 1CSR. On April 21, 1978, he was sent to Lebanon attached to the FIJI Battalion. In July 1979, he was posted to 1Re22R until July 1983. He was posted to 1CSR until 1986 when he was posted to CanadianAirborne Regiment. Then, in 1986, he completed a six-month tour of Cyprus as the 2CDO Sigs NCO. In 1987, he completed an airborne parachutist course. He went to French Guyana in South America in 1988 for a jungle warfare instructor course with the French Foreign Legion. In July 1990, he was posted to Lahr, Germany with HQ and Sigs Squadron. He returned in 1993 upon base closure in Europe and went to CFB Penhold Alberta until September 1994 where he was on Forces Reduction Plan leave. Luc was discharged from the military on September 25, 1995 with twenty years of service. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76 for 32 years. DEMERS, Henri Osias Henri was born in Verner, Ontario on October 17, 1895. He was the third of twelve children. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in Brantford, Ontario on May 16, 1918. His unit was the 2nd Central Ontario Regiment. He embarked in Halifax on August 2, 1918 on the H.M.S. Nankin. He arrived in Liverpool on August 15, 1918 and was part of England’s Defence in Wales and near Liverpool. He embarked in Liverpool on June 7, 1919 on the SS Royal Georgefor Canada. Upon his return, he was honourably discharged in Toronto on June 18, 1919. Throughout the war, he kept in contact with Alma Leblanc and on December 29, 1919 they were married in Verner, Ontario and were married for 63 years. They resided on a farm in Verner on Hwy 17 where they had eight children. They moved to Sturgeon Falls in 1967 and their youngest son Marcel took charge of the family farm, at which time he joined The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 255 for fifteen years. Henri passed away on November 8, 1892. He was a quiet, religious and compassionate person.
