135 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DUCHOU, Roger G. Roger was born in Ninove, Belgium on November 25, 1943. He served in the Army as a reservist with the 2nd Battalion Essex and Kent Scottish Regiment in Canada. Roger currently resides in Sarnia, Ontario. DUHAMEL, Joseph Lawrence “Joe” Joe was born on December 14, 1982 in London, Ontario. He enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces on October 18, 2001 in Ottawa, ON as a Mobile Support Equipment Operator (MSE OP). He completed basic training at Canadian Forces Recruit School in St. Jean, Quebec and his trades training in Borden, Ontario. He served mainly in Petawawa, ON with Headquarter and Signals, 2 Service Battalion and 427 Squadron. Joe also served in Kabul, Afghanistan in 2005 and in Kandahar, Afghanistan in 2007 for which he received the General Campaign Star and the Sacrifice Medal. After serving almost ten years, he was honourably discharged on February 24, 2011 at the rank of Corporal. Joe comes from a military family, his father Steven Duhamel served in Afghanistan and his grandfather Pierre Duhamel was a World War II Veteran. DUERDOTH, William Charles William was born on December 24, 1912, in London, England. His education and experience led him to be involved in all kinds of design and building planning. He was employed by the Wandsworth Borough Council both before and after World War II. During the war, on August 14, 1940, Charles enlisted in the Royal Air Force. He progressed through the ranks up to Flight Sergeant before being commissioned later as Flight Lieutenant. Because of his knowledge of electronics and wireless technology, he was involved in RADAR usage, both flying and ground installations. He served with No. 143 Squadron RAF, and as part of Headquarters at No. 43 Group. At one point, he was posted to Murmansk, Russia travelling there on the infamous Murmansk Run. With the war ending, he was discharged on November 8, 1945. In 1948, Charles and his family immigrated to Canada. He was married to Ivy Doreen, and together they had four children. They lived for the most part in Toronto until 2002, and later in Georgetown, Ontario. Charles passed away in his Georgetown home on August 12, 2019. He was 106 years old.
