137 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DUHAMEL, Pierre Elie Pierre was born on August 24, 1923, in Sutton, Quebec. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on February 19, 1942 in Lachine, Quebec to serve in World War II. He completed his basic training in Montreal and trades training in St. Thomas and Toronto, Ontario as an Aero Engine Mechanic. Pierre spoke three languages, French, German and English. He was shipped over to England in May 1943 and assigned to 3 PRC – 126 Airfield England. Eventually, he served with the Spitfire Wings in France, Germany, Belgium and Holland. His job was to service the Spitfire and Bomber aircraft. Pierre received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with silver clasp/maple leaf and the War Medal 1939-1945. Pierre was honourably discharged on March 15, 1946 at the rank of Leading Aircraftsman (LAC) and transferred to General Section of the Reserve Class. After his military service, he returned to school and became a Stationary Engineer. Pierre passed away on December 3, 1998, at the age of 75. DUNLAY, Matthew Aaron “Matt” Matt was born on July 31, 1977, in Saint John, New Brunswick. He enrolled in the Regular Force of the Canadian Forces as a trained Mobile Support Equipment Operator (MSE OP) in Charlottetown, PEI on February 6, 2002. Due to Matt’s previous training as an MSE OP in the Reserves serving with 31 Service Battalion in Saint John, NB for almost four years, he bypassed recruit and trades training and went directly to his first posting at CFB Petawawa, Ontario. This action was extremely unusual but he was qualified on all the necessary vehicles. During his time in Petawawa, he was deployed to Afghanistan in 2005. Matt also served with Base Transport at CFB Gagetown between 2008 and 2011. He returned to Petawawa serving with 2 Service Battalion. His medals consist of the General Campaign Star (Afghanistan) and the Canadian Forces Decoration. After seventeen plus years of dedicated service, Matt was honourably discharged on February 6, 2017 at the rank of Master Corporal. DUHAMEL, Steven George Steven was born in Montreal, Quebec on July 29, 1957. He enrolled in the Canadian Forces on June 5, 1975, in Montreal as an Infantryman. He completed basic training at CFRS Cornwallis, NS and trades training in London, ON where he was assigned to 1st Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR) London before it was moved to Petawawa. Other postings included Borden, ON, 3 RCR Petawawa, Instructor at the Infantry School Gagetown, NB, CFLRS St. Jean QC. While posted to Ottawa, he was the RCR Career Manager and at the Canadian Forces Support Unit Ottawa, was responsible for all the ceremonial parades including Remembrance Services at the National Cenotaph. He served tours in Egypt, Bosnia (1998) and Afghanistan (April-November 2010). His medals include the General Campaign Star, Special Service Medal (NATO), Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, UN Emergency Force Middle East 2 (Egypt), UN Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Canadian Forces Decoration with 2 clasps. He was also awarded the Commander of the Army Commendation for his work in conducting repatriation ceremonies held at the National Military Cemetery in Ottawa for the burial of Canadian Soldiers. After 36 years of distinguished service, he retired on November 13, 2011, at the rank of Master Warrant Officer.
