Military Service Recognition Book Volume IX 142 Lest We Forget CUPE 831 members across the City of Brampton proudly support our veterans and troops; those who fought for our freedom and died serving our nation. Al Fawcett was raised in Rainey River, Ontario and enlisted at 2nd Battalion the Lake Superior Regiment NPAM, Thunder Bay, Ontario in October 1940. After training in Winnipeg, he was deployed overseas in July 1941 and served as an Army gunner and surveyor fighting in Italy, Belgium, France and the Netherlands. After receiving his discharge with the rank of Sargent in February of 1946, he returned to Thunder Bay where he attained his Funeral Directors license. Together with his wife Margaret (Howe), a registered nurse, they established a funeral service in Geraldton from 1952-58 after which time they moved to Flesherton Ontario purchasing the local funeral service there. Al and Marg had three children and 8 grandchildren at the time of Al’s passing in June of 1990 in his 72nd year. Among his many achievements, Al was Reeve of the Flesherton from 1962-1988 and served on Grey County Council for many of the same years. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br.#333, Flesherton. His family continue his legacy of funeral service in the Flesherton area.
