153 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FLINTOFT, George Fredrick George was born on August 15, 1915 in Pelham Township, Ontario where he was employed at McKinnon Industries from June 1940 to October 1975 when he retired. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in March 1942 and deployed from Halifax for overseas duty. He served with the Princess Louise Dragoon Guards as a trooper in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Central Mediterranean Area. He was wounded in action in Italy on January 23, 1944 and was discharged on August 11, 1944. Upon returning to Pelham, he built his home on the family farm where he raised six children with his wife Rachel. He received the Battle of Britain Medal, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and War Medal 1939-1945. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in St. Catharines. George passed away on May 19, 1995. FOUCAULT, Leonard Anselm “Leo” Leo was born in Espanola, Ontario on June 7, 1919. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on May 21, 1942. Attaining the rank of Sergeant, Blackwatch Royal Highland Regiment; Class A Ski and Mountaineering Instructor, Canadian Ski Troops, to the Lord Lovat Scouts, and Free Norwegians; Combat Instructor, Combat School, Vernon, BC; graduated from Special Training School 103 (Camp X) and was a Field Investigator Canadian Intelligence Corps in M. I. 3 (Mission Intelligence 3), Section 3 A – Security and Aliens. Assigned to the Secret Intelligence Section, Pacific Command, he investigated suspicious behaviours of people who were ‘of interest to national security’. Duties required Leo to travel across Canada eight times and to Alaska twice. He was discharged on May 16, 1946 after six years of military service. He worked at the paper mill and was devoted to helping his community serving on town council for 21 years, seventeen as Mayor and as Legion President for six years. Retiring from the mill in 1981, he worked as Commissioner, Ontario Northland Transportation for two years then as a Case Commissioner, Department of Veteran Affairs for two years. Leo passed away on May 29, 2008. FOSTER, James Francis “Jim” Jim was born in Sarnia, Ontario on March 18, 1925, to William and Julia Foster, and was one of eight children. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force (Regular Force) on September 1, 1943. The final entry in his Pay Book states that he was discharged with a medical classification on December 1, 1943. Returning to civilian life, he held positions as a painter, a bus driver and then purchased a taxi and operated it for many years with United Taxi Cab in Sarnia. He married Gwen Moore on July 26, 1947 and they raised three daughters, Mary, Shelley and Penny. Jim was a long-time member of The Royal Canadian Legion Sarnia Branch 62. He passed away at Sarnia General Hospital on August 7, 1994.
