155 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FRANCIS, Robert Ross Anderson “Bob” Bob was born in Smiths Falls, Ontario on July 28, 1922. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) when he turned eighteen and spent time with the Provost Corps instructing civilians turned new recruits, how to safely operate Harley sidecar and Indian motorcycles. He saw action overseas landing two days after D-Day on Juno Beach. His action included France, Belgium, Germany and Holland. He was released as L/Cpl in the Provost Corps on October 25, 1945, where he worked for the CPR as Fireman/Locomotive Engineer until his untimely death on January 7, 1969. FRECH, Edwin Charles “Ed” Ed was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on July 19, 1925. He enlisted on May 26, 1943 and served in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve on HMCS Prince Henry and participated in the landings on D-Day, then Isle du Levant, Toulon, and then on to Greece and Egypt. After his discharge on October 31, 1945, he married Ruth Abel and they raised a family of six in their hometown of Sault Ste. Marie where he worked at Algoma steel Corp. for 40 years. Ed was a member of Sault Ste. Marie Legion Branch 25 for three years and he passed away on February 26, 1998. FRASER, Claude W. L. Claude was born in Napanee, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) and served as a Bren Gun Carrier with the Canadian Scottish Regiment during World War II. He married Leda Stepovoy in Sault Ste. Marie and worked at Algoma Steel as a crane repair man. There were no children, Leda was killed in an auto accident and eventually Claude remarried a lady from Searchmont, Ontario. Claude passed away on September 1, 1986 and his remains are in S.S.M. Greenwood cemetery.
