171 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GOLDEN, Richard Wayne Richard was born in Sudbury, Ontario on January 1, 1941. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1958 to 1960 before joining the US Army in December 1960 for seven years. He served in Vietnam and in Germany with 1st Battalion and retired with the 16th Infantry Rangers, 1st Infantry Division Co C. Big Red One. Richard was discharged on December 12, 1967. He worked in Ontario Department of Correction in Burwash. He currently is on US VA disability with PTSD due to Agent Orange. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion since 1961 with Branch 39, 76, 177, and is presently a member of Branch 39 in Espanola, Ontario. GOOSE, Arthur Arnold Arnold was born in Scugog Island on October 1, 1912. He enlisted in the Army Regular Force, one of seven Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation World War II Veterans. During World War II, Arnold received four medals and suffered a bullet to his right elbow. Being fluent in the Ojibway language granted him to be an Ojibway Code Talker during the war. Returning from the war in 1945, Arnold worked at a factory in Whitby and at local farms on Scugog Island. Not only did he proudly serve his country, he also served his home community, Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, as a Councillor from May 1955 to 1959 and in May 1967 to 1971. He served as Chief of Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation from May 1971 to June 1983. Sadly, Arnold passed away on June 16, 1984. He had been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Port Perry Branch 419. GOODERHAM, Charles Edward Charles was born in Southbank, England on September 29, 1901. He served from 1914 to 1918 with the R.N. Coast Guard and from 1922 to 1923 with the Royal Corps of Signals. He immigrated to Saskatchewan and worked as a farmer’s helper then moved to Sault Ste. Marie to work at Algoma Steel where he received his stationary engineer papers. He married Phoebe Healey on May 16, 1928, with their forever friend, Rev. Geo Perkins, officiating. Charles enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 as a Stationary Engineer Corporal. He joined the S.S.M. and Sudbury Regiment and retired in 1958 as a Medical Sergeant. Charles and Phoebe had one son, John Edward. Charles received the following decorations: 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defense Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and War Medal 1939-1945 with Clasp, all of which are on display at the 49th Field Regiment in S.S.M. Charles was killed on January 23, 1963, in an accidental explosion in the coke ovens at Algoma Steel where he was a foreman. Charles was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 in Sault Ste. Marie.
