177 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GRAHAM, Joseph Orr Orr was born on October 27, 1910 in Knox, North Dakota. He joined the Canadian Army on July 24, 1940 and served in Canada with the Medical Corps/Forestry Corps until his discharge on November 13, 1945. Orr settled in Balsam, Ontario and was its unofficial mayor. He owned and operated the local grocery store and was a member of Claremont Legion Branch 483 before he passed away on May 23, 1975. GRAY, Thomas Emery Thomas was born on April 23, 1895, in South Shields, England to Robert and Margaret Gray. He was a British Home Child who came to Canada on March 21, 1911 to the orphanage in Hamilton, Ontario. When he was seventeen years old, he went to work on the farm of Mr. J. Blakley in Alliston, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) with the Grey and Simcoe Foresters on March 8, 1916. On May 14, 1917, he sailed to England on the SS Metagamaand served with the 177th Battalion and the 123rd Overseas Battalion, Royal Canadian Engineers, CEF. On December 29, 1917, he was shot in the ankle by a machine gun bullet while installing barbed wire defences at the front. On April 27, 1918, he was wounded in four places by a mill grenade that went off in the trenches. He returned to Canada on January 11, 1919 and was discharged on November 1, 1919 as being medically unfit for service. For five years, he was in and out of the Christie Street Veterans Hospital in Toronto. He passed away due to pulmonary tuberculosis on April 29, 1923. His is buried in Alliston Union Cemetery in Alliston, ON. GRAHAM, Tracy Leigh Shyan Tracy was born on October 5, 1970 in Ottawa, Ontario. She enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces (RCAF) on March 30, 1989 in Winnipeg, MB as an Administrative Clerk. She was part of the first wave of women onboard Navy ships serving aboard HMCS Provider, Esquimalt, BC. Tracy completed tours at Golan Heights, Syria, Landstuhl, Germany and temporarily served at CFSAlert Nunavut. Her postings include Colorado Springs, USA; CFB North Bay, CFB St Jean, 425 Tactical Fighter Squadron Bagotville where she experienced two CF18 jet rides. Other postings include 17WingWinnipeg, 19 AMS Comox, BC and then to Ottawa with the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff and Air Staff. Throughout her distinguished career of over 32 years, she completed an Associate of Arts College diploma while in Colorado Springs and a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Phoenix. While serving at Royal Military College in Kingston, she received Certificates of General Military Studies, and Military Leadership and Management. Her awards include a VCDS Commendation, Member of Military Merit (MMM), Special Service Medal (Expedition), Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, UNDOF (Golan Heights), Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration with clasps. Tracy is married to CWO Didier Pignatel and they have three children.
