187 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HAMMOND, William Earl “Bill” Bill was born in Bristol, United Kingdom, on February 1, 1920. The son of a British World War I Veteran, he moved to Canada at a young age and eventually settled in Toronto and Parkdale. He was one of four siblings who served during World War II. Bill enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on January 13, 1940 and went to England very shortly after with the Lorne Scots, Royal Canadian Infantry Division. He was killed on June 15, 1944, inYorkshire, the result of an automobile accident. One day prior, he had received permission to marry. He is buried at Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey, UK. HARDMAN, Terry Edward Terry was born in Kitchener, Ontario on February 14, 1943. He enlisted in the Army Militia on February 26, 1962 and served until his discharge on May 31, 1964. Terry is a seven-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Chatsworth Branch 464. HAMMOND-BUDGELL, Olive V. Olive was born in Toronto, Ontario on February 11, 1925. She was one of four siblings who served during World War II. She served as a medical stenographer in the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division (Regular Force) and was stationed in both Canada and England. Postwar, Olive worked with the Salvation Army doing relief work in Germany. She married Joseph Budgell and settled in Napoleon, Ohio. They had six children. Olive passed away on July 2, 1979.
