193 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HEALEY, Clifford Andrew “Cliff” Cliff was born in Sault. Ste. Marie on March 23, 1946. He joined the 155 (Borden Gray) Air Cadet Squadron from 1960 to 1965 then enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force as an officer cadet and progressed through the ranks to Captain. He flew Dakota Air Craft on search and rescue missions for several years. His success gained him the nickname Hawk Eye Healey. He married Cecilia (Pasowisty) in Winnipeg on August 25, 1969. On November 2, 1971, Cliff and his crew of seven were killed when their Dak crashed in foul weather while attempting to drop supplies to a downed pilot near Paulatuk, Northwest Territories. The remains of Aircraft Dak 12930 are still in place near a monument built by 440 Squadron. A poem by Cpl J.A. (Monty) Montgomery titled BECAUSE THEY TRIED was written in memory of their service. Cliff and Cee had two children, Karin and Kyle and there are three grandchildren, Michael, Anya and Matthew. The family are living in Sault. Ste. Marie. HEALEY, Robert Glen Robert was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on October 21, 1938. He joined the 155 Squadron SSM Royal Canadian Air Cadets on July 5, 1965. He attended Waterloo College for two years and transferred to Ryerson Polytechnic graduating from the Electronic Technology course in 1960. He married Andrea Mary (Webb) on April 13, 1963. He worked as a Section Manager Quality Control at Northern Electric in Bramalea and for two other companies as production Manager before purchasing a one third share of a Marina in Bala. Robert joined the 758Argus SquadronAir Cadets Brampton as supply officer received his commission in C.A.F. on November 4, 1970. He worked for several years with the Cadet Glider Program. He was released on October 3, 1973. He moved to Sault Ste. Marie and was employed as a Maintenance Electrician at Algoma Steel. Robert served on the executive of Branch 424 for fifty years including seven years as President. He is a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Bala Branch 424, received the MSM in 2004 and Palm Leaf in 2014. Robert started his own business, Tri Lake Services, until retiring to Orillia in 2017. He continues to be involved with the Bala Legion Branch. HEALEY, Clyde Edward Clyde was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on March 23, 1946. He joined the 155 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron from 1960 to 1965, Newman Navy League Officer from 1965 to 1967, and 49th SSM Field Regiment in 1967. He was promoted to Major in 1976, Lt. Col. and Command from 1980 to 1986, A de C to Lt. G/G of Ontario 1980 to 1986, Northern Ontario District HQ Senior Staff Officer Operations 1991 to 1993, Command of 49th Field 1993 to 1999, Honorary Col. 49th Field Regiment from February 10 to March 17, 2015, extended to 2018 to 2021 and further extended to 2022 to 2025. Clyde married Gunta (Bremmanis) on August 11, 1973, and they have three daughters. Clyde received the following: Canadian Decoration and two bars, Canada 125 Medal, Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal, Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers and Senate Sesquicentennial Medal in March 2017. Clyde was employed by Sault Ste. Marie Board of Education from 1971 to 1990, Sault Ste. Marie Public Utilities from 1990 to 2007, retiring as Vice President Corporate Services. Clyde and Gunta cottage on St. Joe’s Island on Georgian Bay and live in their home in Sault Ste. Marie.
