195 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HEBNER, Leslie Leslie was born in Barrie, Ontario on January 2, 1876. He enlisted in the Army on November 13, 1914 and joined the 1 CEF in Valcartier, Quebec to serve during World War I. He had served in the militia for eight years prior to active service (35th Battalion). Leslie served in Canada, France and Continental Europe. He was wounded in the face on December 10, 1918 and returned home on January 11, 1919. He was discharged on May 26, 1919. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Midland Branch 80 for seventeen years. Leslie was a resident of Midland from 1941 until his passing on December 19, 1944. HEBNER, Peter Charles Peter was born in Barrie, Ontario on March 31, 1899. He enlisted in the Army and joined the 177 Battalion, CEF on May 17, 1916, at the age of seventeen. He served in Canada, England, and France during World War I. Peter was shot through the hips without breaking bones on August 30, 1918. He returned to Canada on January 18, 1919 and was discharged on January 31. Peter passed away in the 1950s. HEBNER, Marven Nelson Marven was born in Midland, Ontario on May 1, 1934. He enlisted in the Army on May 10, 1952 with 2 Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada. He took his basic training in Valcartier and advance training in Wainwright. Marven served for fourteen months in Korea as a Corporal. He was discharged on July 15, 1955. After service, he was on Lake Freighters for twelve years and thirty years as a powerhouse operator at RCA in Midland. Marven is still active at curling and at lawn bowling. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Midland Branch 80 and previously Penetang Branch 61, for a total of 63 years.
