35 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND AVERY, Arthur Henry Arthur was born in Lucan, Ontario on February 19, 1900. He enlisted in the Army Regular Force on December 13, 1915, served with the 135th Battalion and 125th Battalion in Canada, England and France until his discharge in April 1919. Arthur resided in Sarnia, Ontario in 1919 and passed away in 1967. BAKER, Joseph Andrew “Joe” Joe, and his twin sister Patricia, were the first set of twins born at Grace Hospital in Ottawa on March 14, 1923. Their parents were Veronica (O’Meara) and Andrew Baker. Joe attended St. Theresa’s School, then St. Pat’s College. After leaving St. Pat’s College, he was employed for some time with the Department of External Affairs before enlisting in the Royal CanadianAir Force inWorldWar II onAugust 8, 1941. He trained in Toronto, Guelph, Camp Borden and graduated in Paulson, Manitoba following which he received his Operational Training in Debert, Nova Scotia. He trained as a Wireless Gunner and completed two tours of duty as a Rear Air Gunner with the RCAF then the RAF in the United Kingdom before being discharged on July 15, 1955, as aWarrant Officer I. He was a member of Squadrons 269, 281 and 282. He and his wife Doris (Doyle) raised four children. Joe went on to achieve his Stationary Engineer 2nd Class and worked in various locations until his passing on July 25, 1983. He loved to entertain and make people happy in his true Irish spirit. He also loved the great outdoors to hunt, fish, enjoy life and people around him. BABCOCK, Douglas V. “Doug” Doug was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia on October 9, 1938. He enlisted in the Army at the age of eighteen in May 1956. Doug was sent to Kingston, Ontario for training as an Instrument Technician. After spending one year in Kingston, Doug was transferred to Calgary, Alberta for two years. Discharged in May 1959, Doug went to work for Northern Electric. He got married and he and his wife raised four children. After that, Doug went to work for Chrysler Corp for two years as an engineer. After leaving the Chrysler Corp, he went to work for Kelsey Hayes as an engineer for the next twenty years. Doug is retired and is living in Windsor, Ontario. He is a proud sixty-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 255.
