43 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BARTLEY, Karl R. Karl was born in Kitchener, Ontario on May 25, 1922. He enlisted with the Canadian Army on August 24, 1942 in London, Ontario and served as a Bombardier for just over 19 months in Canada with the East Coast Battery. He was then deployed to the United Kingdom and Northwest Europe where he served as a field gunner. Upon his return to Canada and discharge on June 5, 1946, he moved to Bridgeport, Ontario and then to Waterloo where he spent most of his working life as a butcher. He had two daughters with his wife Ruth. Karl was a member of Waterloo Legion Branch 530 for 35 years before he passed away on August 17, 1988. BEATON, Lloyd Lloyd was born on May 19, 1895 in the hamlet of Glamis, Ontario, to Walter and Christina (McEachern) Beaton. Like many others, Lloyd went west from Glamis and settled in Viscount, Saskatchewan where he worked as a hardware clerk. He enlisted in the Army in Moose Jaw on November 5, 1917 in the First Depot Battalion Regiment. He was sent to England from Saint John, NB aboard the SS Scotian on February 21, 1918 and landed in Liverpool, England. Lloyd was sent with the 15th Canadian Regiment Battalion to France on August 19, 1918 and returned to England on March 28, 1919. He sailed for Canada on April 26, 1919 on theEmpress of Britainand subsequently discharged on May 8, 1919 in Toronto. BARTMAN, Bruce Garnet Bruce was born in Tobermory, Ontario in 1895. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on March 18, 1916 and served overseas with the 160th Bruce Battalion, Special Services on October 10, 1916.
