47 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BEDORE, John L. John was born in Orillia, Ontario on May 30, 1913. He enlisted with the Royal Montreal Regiment on October 6, 1939 and served in England, France, Holland, Belgium and Germany until his discharge on September 15, 1945. John worked in the mining industry and was a member of Marmora Legion Branch 237 for ten years prior to his death on November 7, 1983. BELL, William Harris William was born on November 15, 1892, in Brussels, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on January 3, 1918, in London with the 1st Depot Battalion of the Western Ontario Regiment, C.O.M.F. He sailed for England in April 1918 on the HMS Grampian and served with the 18th Battalion in France. He was transferred to the 4th Canadian Reserve and suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder in August 1918. He was still healing when he sailed home in January 1919 on demobilization. He was discharged on February 6, 1919, and returned home to Brussels where he became the Town Police Officer. He lived next door to the Town Hall which later became Brussels Branch 218 of The Royal Canadian Legion. He was in charge of ringing the bells for fire calls. Comrade Bell enlisted inWorldWar II and served as a Veteran Guard of Canada. He was a charter member of The Royal Canadian Legion Brussels Branch 218 formed in 1931 and was a member for 46 years. Comrade Bell passed away on November 11, 1977, just days short of his 85th birthday. BÉLANGER, Gérald Gérald was born in Cornwall, Ontario on March 27, 1935. He joined the Army in 1950 and served in Korea with the Royal 22nd Regiment (Van Doos) until his discharge in 1953. Gérald died on September 23, 1972.
